Overview
Bodie State Historic Park preserves a genuine gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people. Only a small part of the town survives, preserved in a state of "arrested decay." Visitors may look through windows to interiors that remain as they were left. Note that there is water but no food for sale in the park. There is an unshaded picnic area. Be prepared for dry, windy, hot 8300-foot+ elevations.

This high desert site is open all year (9 am to 6 pm in summer, 9 am to 4 pm, or as posted, in winter), but the Visitor Center/Museum is only open May 15th to October 31st from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Because of the elevation, the park is accessible only by over-snow equipment during the winter months. Visitors should be aware of how high altitude may affect them. From U.S. 395 south of Bridgeport, take State Route 270 east ten miles to the end of the pavement, and continue three miles on a rough dirt road to Bodie. Phone (760) 616-5040 for more information.

Trails
The Cemetery Trail is an ‘out-and-back’ accessible trail that is 0.25 miles each way from the historic site main parking are to the park cemetery. The surface is a concrete, compacted aggregate, and compacted soil. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with intermittent sections between 5% to 8%. Accessible parking, drinking fountain, and restrooms are provided at the main parking area.

Exhibits/Programs
The fully protected facilities and high desert conditions here may challenge persons who have limited mobility. Visitors with limited mobility who notify staff upon arrival will be able to arrange drop-offs close to certain areas where level landings and routes into the theater and visitor center have been improved. Many structures are on boardwalks that require climbing stairs from streets to get to window views. Original uneven boardwalks and unimproved terrain are the norm. Parking includes a van accessible space. There is an accessible flush toilet available at the parking lot.
