Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park

Overview
The Folsom Powerhouse is part of a colorful chapter of Sacramento history and is also an example of the tremendous advance in the commercial application of electricity. Once called the greatest operative electrical plant on the American continent, the structure looks much as it did in 1896 when it was creating electricity for Sacramento from the American River. It is located at 9980 Greenback Lane in Folsom. The Powerhouse is open from 12 pm to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Group Tours are available by special arrangement. Call (916) 985-4843 or (916) 988-0205 for more information.

Picnic Area
Accessible picnic sites are available, but may require drop-off from the upper parking lot.

Exhibits/Programs
The 1890's Historic Power House is generally accessible. A steep road leads from an undeveloped parking lot to the main building, but visitors may arrange for automobile drop-off at the structure as necessary. Within the structure, visitors using wheelchairs may require assistance to see the turbine room. A generally accessible unisex restroom building is also at the bottom of the hill. Parking is accessible.
