Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area

Overview
Adjacent to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area.
The park has pay showers, picnic tables, shade structures, fire rings and a dump station available, but no water. Access is via Highway 78, about 35 miles east of Julian or about 20 miles west of Highway 86. Phone 760-767-5391

Camping
Holmes Camp. Camping is permitted almost anywhere but there are two accessible sites with compliant furnishings and shade structures at this popular camping area. Restroom with showers. The accessible toilets permit side transfers. Showers are generally accessible. Four additional vault type restrooms in Holmes Camp accommodate side and front transfers. Routes of travel to all restrooms, showers and trash traverse unstable soft sand, and wheelchair users may need to drive or be dropped off.

Portable toilets throughout the park have been replaced with permanent accessible vault restrooms.

Meets all or most of the current accessibility standards; most visitors with disabilities will not need assistance.
Generally accessible
Meets many current codes and has few barriers, but some visitors with disabilities may need assistance.
Usable
Meets some current codes but has some barriers; many visitors with disabilities may require assistance.
Designated accessible
Describes facilities that have been set aside and usually signed or “designated” accessible because they met accessibility codes when built. Such facilities may vary from newer suggested guidelines in specified ways, and improvements may be planned or ongoing. Minor variations from guidelines are not usually described. This term is often used for parking spaces that are reserved for visitors with disabilities even though there may be minor issues with slope, signage, or size.
