Carpinteria State Beach

Overview
Just south of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria State Beach offers camping, picnicking and beach activities year-round. Naturally occurring surface tar still collects along the beach, but does not seem to affect its popularity. Phone 805-684-2811.

Camping
Anacapa Loop Sites 5 and 15 as well as Group sites, Bobcat and Fox are accessible. Restrooms with Showers. One combination restroom shower building is accessible in the Anacapa (tent camp) loop.

Santa Cruz Loop Sites 38, 52, and 64 are accessible and two generally accessible combination buildings are in the Santa Cruz Loop.

Campfire Center: The campfire center has both upper and lower accessible seating areas.

Picnic Area
Several accessible picnic sties, including the shaded group areas are accessible. Fully accessible parking spaces and restroom are located in the day use area.

Beach/Shore Access
Call (805) 684-2811 to reserve beach wheelchair. Parking Three designated accessible spaces are in each of the following lots near beach access: the Tar Pit and Jellybowl lots and the Ranger Office lot.

Definitions & Terms
Accessible
Meets all or most of the current accessibility standards; most visitors with disabilities will not need assistance.
Generally accessible
Meets many current codes and has few barriers, but some visitors with disabilities may need assistance.
Usable
Meets some current codes but has some barriers; many visitors with disabilities may require assistance.
Designated accessible
Describes facilities that have been set aside and usually signed or “designated” accessible because they met accessibility codes when built. Such facilities may vary from newer suggested guidelines in specified ways, and improvements may be planned or ongoing. Minor variations from guidelines are not usually described. This term is often used for parking spaces that are reserved for visitors with disabilities even though there may be minor issues with slope, signage, or size.
