Overview
Castle Crags State Park is named for the 6,000-feet tall glacier-polished projecting rocks to which game hikers may climb for a great view of the area including Mount Shasta. Visitors should be aware of how high altitude may affect them. The park is 6 miles south of Dunsmuir on I-5. Phone (530) 235-2684 or (530) 225-2065 for more information.
Trails
Vista Point Trail is a 0.25 mile trail leading to views of three distinct volcanic features: Castle Crags, Mount Shasta, and Gray Rocks. Accessible parking and an accessible vault restroom are located at the large parking area at the end of Vista Point Road.
The Root Creek Trail provides a 1 mile trail experience through coniferous forest. The trail includes a short boardwalk over an upland natural spring area and shares a short section with the Pacific Crest Trail. Accessible parking is located at the trailhead. A generally accessible restroom and accessible parking is located at the large parking area at the end of Vista Point Road.
