McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park

Overview
McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park’s centerpiece is the 129-foot Burney Falls. Burney Falls was named after pioneer settler Samuel Burney who lived in the area in the 1850s. The park has accessible campsites, cabins, and a great many other accessible features. The park is located northeast of Redding, six miles north of Highway 299 on Highway 89 near Burney. Phone (530) 335-2777 for more information.

Camping
Rim Campground: Seven accessible campsites are available (#1, #3, #23, #27, #30, #47, and #51). Site #1 & #3 have electric hook-ups and can accommodate tents or RV’s. Restrooms with showers are accessible including nearby accessible parking.

Two accessible cabins (#59 & #62) are available in the Rim Campground. Inside, the cabins are equipped with heat and two single beds with foam mats, but no electricity. Outside, each cabin has its own fire pit, picnic table, and space for a tent. Accessible restrooms/showers and parking are available in the campground loop. Visit Access Northern California for detailed cabin accessibility information and photos.

Headwaters Environmental Camp: For guests who can travel the 50 feet from the parking to the two accessible campsites, this primitive walk-in campground is accessible. The accessible campsites offer accessible tables and fire rings, with accessible shared water spigots. An accessible vault restroom is also provided.

Picnic Area
Falls Overlook: Accessible picnic sites are dispersed in a wooded area between the General Store and the Visitor Center. Accessible parking and restrooms are available.

Lake Britton Marina: Accessible picnic sites, restroom, and parking are available near the boat launch, at the end of Lake Road.

Trails
The Headwaters Trail is an ‘out-and-back’ accessible trail that is 0.71 miles each way. The trail is upstream of Burney Falls along Burney Creek. There is an accessible fishing pier along the trail offering good fishing. The surface is constructed of compacted aggregate, rock, & soil. There is one armored crossing on the trail that water flows over during rain events that might be challenging for some users. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% with intermittent sections between 5% to 12%. Trailhead and parking are at the Falls Overlook parking area. A restroom is located near the General Store.

The Burney Creek Trail is accessible for 1.31 miles. The trail starts at accessible parking spaces located at the Lake Britton Beach parking lot. This trail provides an accessible trail route form the beach parking lot to an overlook of Burney Falls. An accessible fishing landing and lake overlook are provided along the route. Accessible day use picnicking and restrooms are provided at the trailhead. Due to land movement, the trail may be closed without notice and is not accessible to all users until a new route can be determined and constructed.

The Pioneer Cemetery Trail is a hike and bike trail on firm but rocky, sometimes rutted soil that follows a historic wagon trail leading to an old cemetery. Its 1.6-mile round trip length may be usable in fair weather for strong wheelchair users and others seeking a relatively easy trail. Trailhead and limited parking are near campsite #75 in the Pioneer Campground.
