South Carlsbad State Beach

Overview
South Carlsbad State Beach features swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing, picnicking, and camping in a bluff-top campground. The beach is in the San Diego area 3 miles south of Carlsbad on Carlsbad Boulevard. Phone (760) 438-3143 for more information.

Camping
Accessible campsites are 16, 77, 87, 97, 108, 119, 126, 148, 153, and 184. Most sites are paved, level, spacious, and have accessibly designed tables. Paved tent spaces do not allow use of stakes. Restrooms with showers are accessible, including adjacent parking.

Four sets of stairways, spaced along the north and south end of the campground, lead to the beach. At the southern end of the campground, between campsites 180 and 179, is an accessible beach access ramp.

The camp store/park office, laundry, and vending machines are accessible with accessible parking.

Picnic Area
The North Ponto Day Use Area includes accessible parking adjacent to an accessible vault style restroom. A safe beach access route is available at the South Ponto Day Use Area.

The South Ponto Day Use Area includes several accessibly designed tables and usable barbecue grills. Parking and routes are accessible. Restroom and outdoor rinsing showers are accessible.

Beach overlook vistas are located along the bluffs above the main parking lot of the South Ponto Day Use Area. The vistas are generally on accessible routes and have room to maneuver.

Beach/Shore Access
The route from the South Ponto Day Use Area to the beach is accessible. A beach wheelchair is available via a self-service check out storage cabinet. Contact park staff at the campground entrance kiosk to complete the release of liability form and obtain the combination code to the storage cabinet, or call (760) 438-3143 for more information.

Exhibits/Programs
The campfire center within the campground is accessibly designed.
