Overview

Team Sugar Loaf took over operation of Sugar Loaf Ridge State Park on June 1, 2012. No State services or staff are available.

Sugarloaf Ridge State Park offers hiking, camping and horseback riding along a variety of terrains. The park is in Kenwood off Highway 12 at the end of Adobe Canyon Road. Phone (707) 833-5712 for more information.

Camping
Campsites #6, #7, and #12 are accessible. A restroom with showers is accessible. The campfire center is also accessible with a variety of wheelchair seating areas. The accessible route to the campfire center begins near campsite #12.

Picnic Area
The picnic area is accessible and includes an accessible vault restroom.

Trails
The Creekside Nature Trail is a 0.44 mile accessible trail along the banks of Sonoma Creek. One end of the trail starts at the main day-use area just northeast of the visitor center/park entry kiosk. The other end of the trail is at the parking area near the equestrian staging area and the observatory. The is compacted aggregate that is usable year-round, and offers great views and interpretive opportunities of the Sonoma Creek area. There is one armored crossing on the trail that vehicles drive over the trail and water flows over during rain events that might be challenging for some users. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with intermittent sections between 5% to 8%. Accessible parking is available at both ends with accessible restroom and picnic areas at the main day-use area.

The Meadow Trail is an fire/service road that leads to a stream and is used as a trail by hikers, bikers and equestrians. It is generally accessible for about 0.75-mile. Occasionally gravel works loose and limits accessibility. The trailhead is approached from the day use parking lot near the equestrian staging area and the observatory. Accessible parking in the day-use parking near the equestrian staging area and observatory. Accessible restroom is available in the main day-use area.

Exhibits/Programs
Visitor Center is generally accessible, including parking and routes to the building, portable restroom, and information area.

Robert Ferguson Observatory rooms and route to telescopes are generally accessible, but paths of travel in the library are only 30” wide. Telescope eyepieces may not suit everyone’s needs. Call observatory ahead at (707) 833-6979 to discuss your needs. Parking and restrooms are generally accessible. Route of travel from parking space is hard-packed gravel that is generally accessible. It may occasionally work loose and require some assistance, but the space is adjacent to the observatory.
